The birth anniversary of Mahatama Gandhi was observed with grandeur at Mansa district today paying true tributes to the Father of Nation by holding Peace March from Gandhi Senior Secondary School to district courts as well as holding massive cleaning drive in all the 27 wards of Mansa city.Leading the Peace March, Deputy Commissioner Mansa Mrs Apneet Riyait walked with the participants leading the event for promoting peace and brotherhood in society. Speaking at the event she said that the true tribute to Mahatama Gandhi would be in the one when we ensure that our areas are plastic free and no filth is strewn on the streets. On reaching the district courts, she also flagged off cleanliness drive under which all the 27 wards of Mansa nagar council were swept cleaned.Around 3100 students from various schools and colleges and a NGOs including Nirankari Mission, participated in these events. Around 100 volunteers from NGO Nirankari Mission cleaned entire stretch from district courts to the District Administrative Complex. Deputy Commissioner Mrs Apneet Riyait lauded the role of all NGOs in making the drive a huge success.All the participants of cleanliness drive were provided with masks and gloves to conduct the cleaning drive. Besides that entire nagar council safai sewak staff was pressed into action to collect the garbage from various places. School students also conducted the unique exercise of motivating people to say no to plastic. Students went door-to-door collecting plastic bags and encouraged people to use cloth or jute bags instead of plastic. ADC (Ddevelopment) Mr Gurmeet Singh Sidhu, Assistant Commissioner (General) Mrs Navdeep Kumar, SDM Mansa Mrs Sarabjit Kaur, DDPO Mr Dinesh Vashisht, Swasth Bharat Prerak Mr Aditya Madaan were also present.Observing the Gandhi Jayanti, at nagar panchayat Bhikhi cloth bags were distributed to the people. Similarly, in villages too various youth clubs held cleanliness drive. Great Thinkers Club Burj Dhilwan,Shaheed Bhagat Singh Sehyogi Club Gehlo and others cleaned areas in their villages.
