DC exhorts farmers to come forward for checking air and water pollution

Felicitates farmers for not burning paddy straw

Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Varinder Kumar Sharma today called upon the farmers to come forward for Checking water and air pollution as a humble and befitting tribute to Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji on his 550th parkash purab.Addressing the gathering during Kisan Mela organised at the Krishi Vikas Kendra here today, the Deputy Commissioner said that Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s teaching were very close to nature and Guru Sahib had taught us to preserve the environment. He said that at this juncture when the entire humanity was commemorating 550th parkash purab of Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji it was our moral duty to come forward check the air and water pollution. Mr Sharma said that it was the need of hour to ensure that precious natural resources could be preserved for our coming generations.The Deputy Commissioner, who also felicitated the farmers for not burning the paddy straw, said that farmers should not indulge in this practice which was causing irreparable damage to the environment. He said that the state government was already giving huge subsidies to the farmers to purchase ultra modren machinery for in situ management of the paddy straw. 

Varinder Kumar Sharma said that district admin would ensure fulsome support and cooperation to the farmers for this noble cause.Lauding the efforts of the Krishi Vigyan Kendra and Agriculture department for holding such melas, the Deputy Commissioner said that such melas were very helpful for further sharpening the expertise of farmers. He said that besides apprising farmers about the use of end technology in agriculture such melas were also helpful in giving vital guidance to farmers regarding crop management and soil health. Mr Sharma urged the farmers to derive maximum mileage from such camps .Addressing the gathering Additional Deputy Commissioner Mr Kulwant Singh also called upon the farmers to make judicious use of water. He said that all of us were duty-bound to ensure that every single drop of water was optimally utilised for well being of the humanity. Mr Kulwant Singh further said that water was a precious natural resource and all of should make concerted efforts for conserving it.On the occasion eminent environmentalist Baba Balbir Singh Seechewal, Assistant Director Krishi Vigyan Kendra Dr Kuldeep Singh, Chief Agriculture Officer Dr Naazar Singh,Deputy Director Animal Husbandry Dr Ram Lubhaya, Agriculture Officer Dr Naresh Gulati and others were also present.
