Commissioner, Food & Drugs Administration Vinod Sharma represented Jammu and Kashmir at the meeting of Central Advisory Committee of Food Safety & Standards Authority of India held today  at Goa.Many important decisions with regard to Food Safety and the new initiative ‘EAT RIGHT MOVEMENT’ were taken.Among the important decision, the Authority set a target to provide one Mobile Food Testing Van for each District  costing  Rs 35 lakh   for on spot testing , generating awareness and for training on Food Safety & hygiene Practices.  As an incentive, the Authority will provide equal number of Mobile Food Testing vans which the state Government shall Purchase. In addition to that FSSAI Shall also provide Rs 5 lakh per Mobile Food Testing van as maintenance / operational cost per year. A lot of efforts by way of generating awareness /advisories in the past have been taken by the Food Authorities for decreasing the level of Trans Fatty acids.  Now onwards, Manufacturers/Distributors/dealers connecting with the business of manufacturing/using of Hydrogenated Vegetable oils in various food items with more than 5% by weight of Trans fatty Acids will face prosecution. Efforts shall be made by way of generating awareness, campus etc, to make our citizen aware about the food Safety Hazards by consuming food items containing higher Trans fatty acids.Further the Eat Right Movement was launched today and it was decided to give it wide publicity & spread mass awareness on this account.
