Livestock sector can fillip JK’s economic profile : Dr. Asghar Hassan Samoon

Principal Secretary Animal, Sheep and Fisheries Department, Dr. Asghar Hassan Samoon, today asked the officers to tailor-make their work projections according to the livestock profile of their respective areas.The Principal Secretary was speaking during a meeting of officers of Animal, Sheep and Fisheries Department. The meeting was attended by Director Sheep Husbandry Kashmir Dr Abdul Salam, Director Finance Animal & Sheep Husbandry Zahoor Ahmed Wani, District officers and Project Directors of Animal, Sheep and Fisheries Department.Stating that livestock has potential to change economic profile of J&K, Dr Samoon asked the officers to encourage and motivate unemployed youth to setup their sheep breeding farms."It will be a win-win situation for the J&K- other than creation of employment opportunities, we will be able to cater to the domestic needs of mutton consumption," he said.He also asked the concerned to setup model veterinary hospitals in every district laced with sufficient manpower, laboratory and Operation theaters.While seeking the details of the implementation of various central and J&K government schemes, Dr Samoon stressed on the officials to seed the account numbers of beneficiaries with Aadhaar so that the benefit reaches to the deserving persons.During the meeting, the officials of the Fisheries Department also presented overview of the departmental activities.Dr Samoon asked the officers to provide free-of-cost housing to the fishermen communities besides bicycles and load carriers for transportation of fish to the market.He also asked the officers to diversify their role from fish production to setting up aquariums for adding tourist attractions in tourism map of J&K.
