ADC Starts Village Level Intensive Drive To Make Farmers Aware Of Stubble Burning Menace

To make the people especially the farmers aware of the hazardous effects of the paddy straw burning, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) Mr Kulwant Singh on Monday initiated a village level intensive drive to create awareness amongst the farmers on this sensitive issue.Additional Deputy Commissioner Mr Kulwant Singh said that the farmers will be made aware of ill effects of paddy straw burning, which poses a serious risk to the health of individuals under this drive being organized by NABARD in association with NGO Abhivaykti.He said that farmers will also be made aware of the damage caused to human health and environment due to paddy straw burning, for which this campaign would play a key role.He added that the village level meetings will be organized daily to motivate the farmers to shun this practice. He told that the campaign will be focussed on making the farmers aware of the negative effects of paddy straw burning adding that it was the high time when farmers were encouraged making firm resolve to save the environment by shunning this hazardous practice.He said that those farmers who were indulging in this practice were, in reality, stewing thorns for their coming generations by gifting them a polluted atmosphere.He added that the farmers of several villages have set an example that the paddy straw could be efficaciously used for making organic manure besides being utilized as fodder for cattle.On the occasion, DIO Dr Tarsem Lal, DDM NABARD Mr LK Mehra, ATMA Deputy Project Director Ms. Ramandeep Kaur, Dr HS Kahlon from Dairy Department, soil and water conservation department Sub Divisional Officer (SDO) Mr. Lupinder Kumar and NGO representatives Mr Shailendra Kumar Singh, Mr Amritpal Singh Khalsa, Ms Aarti and others were present.
