Chief Secretary directs DCs for effective implementation 'Swachhata Hi Seva' campaign

Chief Secretary Dr. Shrikant Baldi here today reviewed district-wise action plan for conducting three phases of 'Swachhata Hi Seva' campaign through Video Conference with all Deputy Commissioners to eradicate plastic waste problem from the state. He said that this campaign was started from 11th September, 2019 and would continue till 27th October, 2019 with the aim to control plastic waste.Dr. Baldi said that the Phase–I of the campaign would include awareness generation across town and villages for plastic waste collection and segregation. This campaign would comprise of preparation for massive plastic waste collection drive across all rural and urban areas of the state.He said that in the Phase-I of campaign educational institutions, eco-clubs, mahila mandals, self-help groups, yuvak mandals, beopar mandals, NGO's, all industries, local industrial units and commercial organisations would be involved for awareness and preparation for collection and disposal of all plastic waste.He directed all DCs to ensure effective implementation of the campaign and said that at least 5 to 8 programmes are conducted in each block/Tehsil to ensure effective implementation of the campaign. He directed to start the campaign by replacing packaging plastic, maximize use of jute/cloth bag and mobilization of mass production. The second phase of the campaign would include preparation for collection and disposal of all plastic waste. He directed all DCs to notify waste collection centers and mobilize maximum local public for plastic waste collection, cleaning of hot spots and segregation of waste. He directed that massive plastic waste collection drive would take place across rural and urban areas.He said that the third phase of the campaign would include effective disposal of plastic. He said that this phase would be organised in three parts, in which form 3rd October to 7th October, 2019 transportations of collected waste from villages to Urban Local Bodies collection centers would be done, from 8th October to 10th October, 2019 segregation of plastic waste into recyclables and non recyclables would take place and from 11th October to 27th October, 2019 transportation of waste for recycling and disposal would be done.Additional Chief Secretaries R.D. Dhiman,   Ram Subhag Singh, Nisha Singh, Director Environment D.C. Rana, Programme Coordinator Dr. Suresh Atri and others senior officers were also present in the meeting.
