Effective implementation of KCC livestock scheme can weave success stories: Dr Samoon

Principal Secretary Animal, Sheep and Fisheries Departments, Dr Asghar Hassan Samoon today said that effective implementation of livestock Kissan Credit Card (KCC) scheme can weave success stories of livestock farmers.The Principal Secretary was speaking at a joint meeting of officials of Animal, Sheep, and Fisheries Departments here today.Dr Samoon reiterated that aim of the Scheme is to give confidence to the livestock farmers to increase their investment in the sector for better returns.He also stressed on the sensitization of banking staff in rural areas regarding various state and central government sponsored welfare schemes besides Kissan Credit Card Scheme.The Principal Secretary directed formation of a committee of  officials , representatives of Banks and NABARD for regular meetings to speed up the implementation of KCC scheme.Earlier, a meeting was held with officials of Department regarding projection of various mega projects which is part of a roadmap prepared by Dr Samoon to give major fillip to the livestock sector.According to the plan, 11000 animals would be covered under insurance scheme so that the farms can increase investment in livestock sector.To provide quality feed to the livestock, the Department will setup mega feed plants in various parts of J&K.During the meeting, Dr Samoon also asked the officials to increase the village Diary Cooperative Societies to 2000 in next five years. He also said that a major dairy institute will be setup under the programme where youth of state can be trained in the trade.The meeting was attended by Director Animal Husbandry Kashmir/Jammu, Director Sheep Husbandry Department Jammu/Kashmir, Director Fisheries, Director Finance AHD, Director Planning AHD, DGM NABARD and representatives of SBI, PNB, Elaquie Dehati Bank, HDFC, J&K Bank and ICICI Bank.
