Vigilance Bureau nabs Electricity Meter Reader accepting Rs 7000 bribe in Moga

A team of the Vigilance Bureau on Thursday nabbed an Electricity Meter Reader posted at Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) in Dharamkot sub-division while accepting a bribe of Rs 7000 for getting a laboratory report of burnt electricity meter in the favour of complainant Gursevak Singh, a resident of Dharamkot. The accused has been identified as Jaspal Singh.Divulging the details, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP Vigilance) Harjinder Singh said that Gursevak had filed a complaint with Vigilance Bureau against the accused Jaspal Singh alleging that the latter has been demanding Rs 15000 bribe from him.The complainant apprised the Vigilance Bureau that the electricity meter at his house was burnt after short circuit and the accused Meter Reader Jaspal Singh had started blaming him that he deliberately put the electricity meter on fire to avoid paying hefty bills. The complainant said that Jaspal told him that he will send the burnt meter to laboratory and if the report comes against them, he would have to pay Rs 70000-80000 as electricity bill and penalty.The complainant said that Jaspal had demanded Rs 15000 as a bribe to get the laboratory report of a burnt meter in his favour.DSP Harjinder Singh said that the Vigilance Bureau has successfully nabbed the accused Jaspal Singh, while he was accepting the first instalment of bribe of Rs 7000 from the complainant.Meanwhile, the case has been registered under various sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act at the Vigilance police station.
