DC asks all the departments to ascertain loss to government and private infrastructure

Says every single penny of loss would be duly compensated

Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Varinder Kumar Sharma today asked all the departments to assess the loss made to government and private infrastructure due to floods for duly compensating it.Chairing a meeting of all the departments to review the flood relief arrangements here today, the Deputy Commissioner said that each and every loss must be duly accounted so that a comprehensive report could be submitted to the state government. He asked all the concerned departments viz. Health, Animal Husbandry, Education, Agriculture, Rural Development and others to submit their report at the earliest. Mr Sharma further said that he would personally monitor these reports and ensure appropriate and timely action.The Deputy Commissioner further asked the Health and Animal Husbandry department to intensify awareness campaign for apprising the people about prevention to be taken for checking the spread of Human and cattle diseases in aftermath of floods. Mr Sharma said that top priority must be accorded for checking the spread of diseases for saving the precious lives of Human and cattle in the flood affected districts. He said that in post flood scenario the possibility of spread of diseases in the flood hit areas was maximum. Mr Sharma said that for this both these key departments must pull up their socks to ensure that human and cattle life was saved at the earliest.

The Deputy Commissioner said that apart from ensuring the supply of health facilities and medicines for human beings and cattle in marooned villages awareness campaign must focus on spreading awareness about do’s and don’ts in the aftermath of floods. He said that for this massive poster campaign must be launched in every village out of total 21. Likewise Mr Sharma said that announcements regarding awareness must also be made from religious places in the flood ravaged villages.The Deputy Commissioner asked the Rural Development department to further expedite the work of cleanliness of village. He also asked the Water Supply and Sanitation department to ensure supply of potable drinking water in all the villages besides making strenuous efforts for restoring the water supply schemes in the villages. Mr Sharma also asked the PSPCL to restore the power supply in all the villages.The Deputy Commissioner also asked the Mandi Board to immediately start the work of repairing the roads, wherever possible, for making them motorable. He also asked the agriculture department to ensure proper assessment of the crop loss in the flood hit villages. Mr Sharma also asked them to make sure that the farmers were duly compensated for their loss.On the occasion Additional Deputy Commissioner Mr Kulwant Singh, Sub Divisional Magistrate Mr Paramveer Singh and Dr Charumita, Assistant Commissioner Mr Varjeet Walia, Civil Surgeon Dr Gurinder Chawla, DIstrict Food and Supply Controller Mr Narinder Singh, Chief Agriculture Officer Dr Naazar Singh, Executive Engineers Mr NP Singh, Mr RS Cheema and Mr Gurpreet Singh, Dr Satish and others.
