Social Security and Women & Child Development Minister Aruna Chaudhary, on Thursday, laid the foundation stone of Baba Phul Government Old Age Home here at Tapa. The building would be constructed with an estimated cost of Rs. 7.27 crore upon around 3 acres of land. After the foundation stone laying ceremony, the cabinet minister said that at the old age home, as many as 150 senior citizens would avail host of benefits at free of cost. Ms. Aruna Chaudhary added that the government is also planning to start a working women hostel inside the building of old age home.The cabinet minister said that Captain Amarinder Singh led Punjab government has been continuously working for the betterment of senior citizens and old age homes would be set up in each district of the state. She added that the architecture of the old age home has been designed to provide shelter and safe haven to elders, who are either shun by their own family or do not have anyone to take care of them. She added that the home will also offer facilities like free medical checkup, ambulance, food, clothes, leisure activities and opportunity for inmates to be part of engaging community activities to provide them homely and better living environment.Meanwhile, former MLA Kewal Singh Dhillon said that the Congress led Punjab government is committed to the development of Punjab and development works were also in full swing in Barnala district. He added that Ms. Aruna Chaudhary has also distributed cheques of Rs 2 lakh each to two panchayats of the district.On this occasion, Principal Secretary Raji P. Srivastava, Barnala DC Tej Partap Singh Phoolka, SSP Harjit Singh, Joint Director Charanjit Singh Maan, ADC (d) Parveen Kumar, SDM Karandeep Singh, Abhinav Chaudhary, DPO Kulwinder Singh, DSSO Deepinder Kaur, former MLA Harchand Kaur Ghanauri, ex MLA Nirmal Singh Nimma, Chairman Improvement Trust Makhan Sharma were also present among other dignitaries.
