In order to curb traffic rules violation and implement stricter traffic discipline among the traffic commuters, The Transport Department has decided to procure E-Challan  Machines which will be provided to traffic police for on spot challan of traffic rule violators. It was disclosed by Mrs. Razia Sultana, Transport Minister while presiding  over the 6th meeting of the Road safety Council held at Punjab Bhawan, Chandigarh. She said that soon Road Safety Secretariat will be established which will be  manned by road safety experts and it will keep close watch on vehicular traffic on major road in the state to ensure the compliance of Road Safety Norms.In a press  communiqué released here today Mrs. Razia Sultana said that these E- Challan Machines will be supported with wireless Bluetooth, printer and stationary. She informed  that in Punjab 200 accident prone such black spots have been explored which have high incidence of accidents. She said that Transport Department will improve these  black spots in phased manner by incurring Rs. 20 to 30 lakh on each black spot. Divulging more on this she said that complex entry points of different side roads merging  into main road and interjections would be modified besides installing of iron angles and laying of rumble strips on the roads.

The Transport Minister issued strict instruction to the authorities to ensure that all the toll plazas in Punjab must have weigh in motion machines to check the mobility of  overloaded vehicles. She said that once an overloaded vehicle is challaned, it should not be allowed to move further.Dr. Sharad Chauhan, ADGP Traffic apprised the  Minister that 100 ambulances are at the disposal of the police department to provide immediate relief and medical aid to the victims of road accidents. The Minister  instructed the ADGP to coordinate with Health Department which is also providing 108 ambulance services at the highway to provide the emergency medical services to  the victim at the most crucial hours after accidents.Mr. K. Siva Prasad, Principal Secretary, Transport apprised the minister that 195 breath analyzers were also being  procured to check the alcohol level in blood likewise tender for purchase of 56 speed guns have already been floated.Prominent amongst other who were present in the  meeting included Mr. Dilraj Singh, State Transport Commissioner, Mr. Manvesh Singh Sidhu, Special Secretary, School Education, Dr. Jagdeep Singh, DPI, Mr. Karamjit  Singh, from PRBDB and other senior officers of the department.
