To completely eradicate the drug menace from the district and to keep vigil eye on every drug related activity and smugglers, the Civil, Police and Drug administration of district SAS Nagar will launch joint checking drive against chemist shops. It was today confirmed by Deputy Commissioner Girish Dayalan, while he was presiding over a review meeting of the District Mission Team here at District Administrative Complex. It is pertinent to mention that these Mission Teams have been constituted under state government's programme to create drug free society.During meeting, Mr. Dayalan apprised that administration has constituted Village Mission Teams in every village under its own unique action plan against drug abuse. "Teams should also be formed in the cities on this pattern to check the sale of drugs", he said. Elaborating further his vision to make the district drug free, Mr. Dayalan said that the war launched by the state government is in decisive phase and complete eradication of drugs is the top priority of the state government. "District Administration devised a three-pronged strategy seeking cooperation from the people in general, Enforcement, De-addiction and Prevention," he said, adding that officials shall ensure the implementation of the action plan at the village level through ‘Village Mission Teams and Nasha Nigran Committees’. Panchayat Secretaries, Patwaris, Asha Workers and Beat Constable shall be incorporated in these teams after imparting training to them.Mr. Dayalan has also directed the police department to maintain vigil, especially around slum areas to keep a check on the drug abuse. He also asked the officials of Health Department to keep a check on online sale of medicines. “Village-wise sports competitions and street plays shall be promoted in rural areas to wean away the youth from the drugs,” he added, asking the officials to start Nasha Mukti Helpline. He said that this helpline would be launched soon.ADC (G) Ms. Sakshi Sawhney, SP (H) Mr. Gursewak Singh, Civil Surgeon Dr. Manjit Singh, Assistant Commissioner (G) Mr. Yashpal Sharma, SDM Kharar Vinod Bansal, SDM Mohali Jagdeep Saigal, SDM Dera Bassi Pooja Grewal, DDPO D.K. Saldi and DSSO Mr. Ravinder Rahi were present during the meeting.
