AAP demands special budgetary provisions for promoting sports in state to keep youth off drug menace

Senior leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Deputy Leader of Opposition, Bibi Saravjit Kaur Manuke, on Wednesday met union Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju and urged him to make special budgetary provisions under the sports quota to set up special sports centers and stadiums in Punjab to keep the youth off the menace of drugs.In a memorandum submitted to Union Sports Minister, Bibi Manuke said that the youth of Punjab was head over heels into drugs, adding that the promotion of sports among the youth was the only way forward to prevent it from the zombie of drugs being run under the lordship of the ruling party, drug mafia and police administration. Referring to the financial crisis the state of Punjab was wrestling with, Bibi Manunke urged the Sports Minister to earmark special funds and schemes for promoting sports in Punjab and bail out the beleaguered youth from the menace of drugs.Bibi Manuke also demanded a special stadium and coaching center at Jagraon, the home town of great martyr Lala Lajpat Rai. She sought due honour for the internationally acclaimed player, Hima Das, with the Sports Youth Icon of India Award, saying that Hima Das was an icon for all daughters of the country.
