MGSIPA's three-day training programme on child labour commences in Moga

A three-day long training programme on the theme “Child Labour: A Social Problem” organised by Mahatma Gandhi State Institute of Public Administration, Punjab (MGSIPA) was  commenced at Municipal Council Conference Hall here on Tuesday. The training programme with the aim to eradicate the practice of child labour has been sponsored by the  Department of Personnel & Training, Government of India. As many as 30 officers and officials from different departments and members of NGO have participated in this training  programme.Inaugurating the training programme, Assistant Commissioner (General) Moga Lal Vishwas called for collective and sincere efforts for achieving the goal of child  labour free society, as envisioned by the founding fathers of the country.“Childhood is the best period in the life-span of an individual gifted by God. At this stage, there is a need  for giving quality education and skill full training to the children to enable them to grow as useful and productive citizens,” he said.He said that that there is a need for adopting a  positive attitude by every individual in the society for enforcement of various legal measures for checking the menace of child labour.

Jarnail Singh, Regional Project Director, MGSIPA addressing the gathering said that this event is a part of the series of over 60 training programmes which have been got  approved from Government of India by KBS Sidhu, Special Chief Secretary-cum-Director General and Jaspreet Kaur Talwar, Secretary to Government of Punjab & Director of the  Institute.He said that the issue of child labour is intrinsically linked to socio-economic factors but this is need of an hour to realise that this would prove harmful in future as it  would become a major hurdle in creating a healthy society.He said that in the last three decades, a range of various laws has been enacted to address the problem of child  labour which has contributed to reducing this menace. He appealed to the participants to derive benefit from the views of experts invited to address the sessions in this three-day  programme.Meanwhile, Mandeep Singh, Coordinator Regional Centre, Bathinda gave a brief introduction about the event and spoke on the role of NGOs to curb this menace.  Similarly, Dr Avon Vaid, Assistant Professor at Baba Farid Law College stressed on various legal perspective and the constitutional protection against labour child in India.
