CLAF Agrees To Send Proposals To Goi For Inclusion Of More Areas Of City Under Smart City Project For Need Based Development

In order to give impetus to the overall development of the city, the City Level Advisory Forum (CLAF) of the Smart City today agreed to take up the matter for covering more areas  of the city under the various development projects to be executed in the district with the Government of India (GoI).A decision to this effect was taken in the meeting presided over  by the Lok Sabha MP Chaudhary Santokh Singh in which MLAs Mr. Sushil Kumar Rinku, Mr. Rajinder Beri and Mr. Avtar Singh (Bawa) Henry, Commissioner of Police Mr.  Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, Commissioner Municipal Corporation Mr. Diperva Lakra, Additional Deputy Commissioner Mr. Kulwant Singh and Chief Executive Officer of the Smart City  Mr. Jitendra Jorwal took part.During the meeting it was decided that the request for including new areas under the project for need based development would be sent to the  Government of India for its perusal. Subsequently, the state government and the local MP would pursue the matter with the Union government to include these fresh areas in the  larger interest of the city residents. The CLAF members unanimously said that major push needs to be given to more such projects for ensuring holistic development of the city on  modern lines.It was also informed in the meeting that the work for construction of the Integrated Command and Control Centre at a cost of Rs 116.94 crore was going on in full  swing. It was also apprised in the meeting that the work on safety and security measures for Rainik Bazar using utility ducts for overhanging wires would also be kicked off shortly  at a cost of Rs 2.75 crores. 

The utility ducts would be installed for electrical wires to create a fire hazard free area besides improving the access and movement of pedestrians. It was also decided that Solid  Waste Management Plan for the Area Based Development (ABD) area would be executed at a cost of Rs 3.62 crore with the motive of avoiding unpleasant sight, foul odour,  improve cleanliness and overall environment. Likewise, it was also decided to set up Construction and Demolition Waste Management unit at a cost of Rs 6.05 crore for disposing  off city’s Construction and Demolition Waste in a scientific manner and utilize the crushed aggregate for construction/ making of potteries and tiles etc. Green signal was also  given by CLAF to Waryana Dumpsite Remediation (Bio Mining) project at a cost of Rs 71 crore. Under this project the old legacy waste at Waryana would be cleared by recycling  both organics and buried recyclables in a scientific manner with near zero residual.The CLAF also gave go ahead to laying of more than seven kilometers long Storm Drainage  Network in ABD area to solve the chronic problem of water logging at 120 feet road, Babu Jag Jeevan Ram Chowk, Babrik Chowk, Football Chowk and Basti Adda Chowk. In  another significant decision aimed at optimize utilization of treated water to conserve natural resources and improve environmental condition, the CLAF also gave consent for  setting up one Tertiary treatment Plant Capacity 15 MLD at ‘Basti Peer Daad’ adjacent to existing 50 MLD STP. The recycled water from this Plant would be used for leather  industry, construction work and other purposes. 

Similarly the projects including augmentation of water supply in ABD area, façade improvement of the city station and others were also given a green signal. During the meeting it  was further informed that works worth around Rs. 53 Crore including the work of Development/ Improvement of six parks including 3.05 crore Industrial Area Park, 1.90 crore  Tanki Wala Park, 1.28 crore Tobri Mohalla Park, 9.42 crore Beant Singh Park Part I, 8.16 crore Urban Estate Green Belt and 2 crore Dr. BR Ambedkar park along with  development/ improvement of green areas under Flyover at DAV College, Pathankot Road and Hoshiarpur road besides the work of Rejuvenation of Bist Doab Canal along with  the work of junction improvement of 11 chowks and installation of solar panels at 17 government buildings in the city at a cost of Rs 38.15 crore would be initiated during the  ongoing month.Likewise it was also said that Rs 20.22 crore would be spent on ‘City level Disaster Management Activities Plan’, Rs 46.02 crore on Installation of Smart LED Street  Lights and Centralized Control & Monitoring System on CAPEX Mode with Operation and Maintenance in Jalandhar City’ and Rs 39.29 crore for ‘Development of Smart Roads in  ABD area’, the work on which would start very soon.On the occasion Secretary RTA Dr. Nayan Jassal, Assistant Commissioner of Police Mr. Vaibhav Sehgal, Medical  Superintendent Dr. Jasmeet Kaur Bawa and others were also present.
