Around 7000 Police Personnel To Keep Strict Tab Over Law And Order Situation During Polls In Urban And Rural Areas

In order to ensure free, fair and peaceful general elections in the district around 7000 Police employees would keep a strict vigil during the polls as Commissioner of Police Mr. Gurpreet Singh Bhullar and Senior Superintendent of Police Mr. Navjot Singh Mahal today oversaw the arrangements made by Commissionerate Police and Jalandhar Rural Police respectively. As per details, 704 polling booths of Jalandhar Parliamentary Seat including 163 of Jalandhar West, 160 of Jalandhar Central, 176 of Jalandhar North and 205 Jalandhar Cantt falls under jurisdiction of Commissionerate Police. Similarly, 1159 booths including 236 of Phillaur, 247 of Nakodar, 244 of Shahkot, 219 Kartarpur and 213 of Adampur assembly segment fall under jurisdiction of the Jalandhar Rural Police. Interacting with Police personnel, the Commissionerate of Police said that the Jalandhar Commissionerate Police would uphold the glorious tradition of the Punjab Police to ensure free and fair polls in the state. Mr. Bhullar said that on the polling day one Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police and three Assistant Commissioners of Police would be deployed in every assembly segment in Commissionerate area along with one reserve each earmarked for maintenance of law and order in the area and for checking of polling locations.  

He said that 2411 employees of District Police along with 640 of Central Para Military Force have been deployed in Commissionerate Police.The Commissioner of Police said that 66 patrolling parties would patrol the city intensively adding that 72 Flying Squad Teams and 72 Static Surveillance Teams were also keeping a close tab on entire situation. He said that security has also been beefed up further with installation of 28 nakas which would be supported by 22 gazetted officers each having one reserve of police personnel.In the same manner, the Senior Superintendent of Police Mr. Navjot Singh Mahal while interacting with the officers of the Jalandhar Rural Police also said that the Rural Police would ensure that the elections were held in a peaceful and fair manner. He said that the entire area under the Jalandhar Rural Police has been divided into various sectors. Mr. Mahal said that every sector would be supervised by three officers of the rank of Superintendent of Police and 11 officers of the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police.The Senior Superintendent of Police said that 3147 Police personnel and 723 from the Central Para Military Force would be duty for the polling day. He said that 60 patrolling have been constituted in Rural areas of the city including 41 Flying Squad Teams and 40 Static Surveillance Teams.
