Smelling defeat, Chandumajra trying to divide people : Manish Tewari

Senior Congress leader and party candidate from Shri Anandpur Sahab, Manish Tewari today accused the Akali candidate Prem Singh Chandumajra of trying to polarize people along the communal lines. “What the militancy could not achieve during the dark days of terrorism, Chandumajra is desperately trying to do it now”, Tewari said, while referring to Chandumajra repeatedly mentioning that Shri Anandpur Sahab was a panthic seat and he (Tewari) cannot represent it.Addressing a series of public meetings in the constituency today, Tewari regretted that smelling defeat, Chandumajra was trying to divide people along the communal lines. However, he added, the Akali candidate was miserably mistaken about the Punjabis, as they have never bought a communal argument that could divide people even during the dark days of militancy.Tewari said, instead of resorting to sectarian rhetoric, Chandumajra should have stuck to his challenge of debating the developmental issues in Shri Anandpur Sahab. “Chandumajra threw a challenge at me and when I accepted his challenge about debating various issues, he simply ran away like a coward”, the Congress leader said.He cautioned the Akali candidate against spitting venom and poisoning the atmosphere with sectarian and provocative statements for petty gains. “You may think that such venomous rhetoric will help you, but it can have dangerous repercussions in the long run, so beware”, Tewari warned Chandumajra, while expressing confidence that “the people of Shri Anandpur Sahab, who have the divine privilege of belonging to a place that gave birth to the Khalsa, will never accept such divisive and polarizing people and their sectarian arguments”.
