In order to make the people especially youth aware about the importance of right to vote and to encourage them to participate in the ensuing Lok Sabha polls, the General Election Observer Mr. I Samuel Anand Kumar and Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Mr. Varinder Kumar Sharma today inaugurated a cemented replica of Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) outside Mehr Chand Polytechnic College on Tuesday.Addressing the gathering on the occasion, General Election Observer and Deputy Commissioner said that the replica would play an instrumental role in awakening the people about their voting rights. They said that the replica including VVPAT machine, Control Unit and Ballot Unit would spread the message of importance of voting.  I Samuel Anand Kumar and Mr. Varinder Kumar Sharma that the replica is a part of  Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) initiative of the district administration to encourage the voters to participate in the upcoming polls.General Observer and Deputy Commissioner expressed hope that this EVM replica would act as a catalyst to make the people, especially youngsters, aware of need for enrolling them as voters in democratic system and about their voting rights.They said that this medium would be aptly utilized for generating maximum awareness amongst the masses so that they could actively participate in the ongoing democratic process.General Observer and Deputy Commissioner said that this initiative would help in sensitizing the youth to be active partners in the democratic system.Meanwhile, General Observer and Deputy Commissioner also lauded the efforts made by Principal Mr Jagroop Singh.Prominent amongst others present on the occasion included Additional Deputy Commissioners Mr. Jasbir Singh, Assistant Coordinator SVEEP Mr. Surjit Lal and others.
