The entire leadership of the Congress party in district Ropar today unanimously rallied behind the party candidate from Sri Anandpur Sahab parliamentary constituency, Manish Tewari and expressed its gratitude to the senior leaders, including Ms Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Capt Amarinder Singh, Sunil Jakhar and Ms Asha Kumari for fielding him from here.Addressing a joint press conference here today, Speaker of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha Rana KP Singh, president DCC Ropar Barinder Dhillon and three former district presidents including Sukhvinder Singh Whiskey, Amarjit Singh Saini and Vijay Kumar Tinku, besides a galaxy of senior leaders, assured the party high command that they will ensure that Tewari won by a margin of over 1.5 lakh votes from Sri Anandpur Sahab. The leaders said, given the stature of Tewari, who has worked at the national and international level, besides serving as a union minister, it will be an honour for the people of Sri Anandpur Sahab to have such an eminent representative in the parliament. They said, besides his own persona and stature, combined with the complete failure of the sitting MP Prem Singh Chaundumajra as also that of the Modi led BJP government, the people of Sri Anandpur Sahab had already shown their unprecedented support for the Congress candidate as was seen in the roadshows and public meetings he has been holding since April 15, the day he paid obeisance at Sri Keshgarh Sahab. The Congress leaders maintained that Tewari’s nomination from the constituency had triggered a massive wave in favour of the party and the entire rank and file was united and excited in sending him to the parliament with a record margin. They said, none of the rivals against Tewari including Chandumajra or Bir Devinder Singh stood anywhere near him in comparison. “Whether it be the intellectual abilities or the national and international experience and exposure, Tewari stands far ahead and far apart from others”, they claimed. The party leaders claimed that ever since Tewari’s name was announced and he started campaigning, the opposition candidate, Chandumajra in particular lost all the confidence and he had started panicking. That is the reason, they added, Chandumajra’s campaign was not picking up.
