DC Visits New Grain Market Jalandhar To Oversee Procurement Operations

Reiterates Commitment To Ensure Smooth Wheat Procurement In District

Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Varinder Kumar Sharma today said that the district administration is committed for ensuring smooth and hassle free wheat procurement in the ongoing season to facilitate the farmers.The Deputy Commissioner, who visited the new grain market to review arrangements made for wheat procurement here today, said that as compared to last year’s purchase of 5.39 lakh metric ton, in current marketing season 5.50 lakh metric ton was expected in the year 2019-20. He said that the district administration would lift every single grain of wheat in a smooth and hassle free manner, during the ongoing marketing season. Mr. Sharma said that farmer would not be allowed to face any sort of problem while selling their produce.The Deputy Commissioner said that the district administration has already made elaborate arrangements to ensure that the harvest of farmers was lifted from the grain markets promptly adding that farmer would not be allowed to face any sort of problems while selling their produce.Mr. Sharma said that all Sub Divisional Magistrates (SDMs) and chiefs of the all six procurement agencies have been asked to personally supervise the procurement operations. He said that special instructions have been issued to the officers/ officials for timely payment of produce to the farmers so that they do not face any inconvenience for the sale of their produce in the grain markets.The Deputy Commissioner said that around 78 mandis/purchase centers have been notified for the wheat procurement in the district. Mr. Sharma appealed to the farmers' to bring moisture free grains to the market and avoid burning of wheat straw which causes a major environmental hazard.Prominent amongst others present on the occasion included District Mandi Officer Mr. Varinder Khera, District Food and Supply Controller Mr Narinder Singh and others were present.
