Don’t politicise supreme Sikh institutions : Global Sikh Council

No other book should be considered as tantamount to Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji

Global Sikh Council (GSC) has appealed that all religious and spiritual institutions and its affairs should be fully free from politicization and Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee should not be used as a ladder to meet the political ends of any political party. The GSC during its three-day conference and AGM held under the presidency of Lady Singh Dr. Kanwaljit Kaur at Jakarta, Indonesia, has unanimously passed three resolutions and resolved that all religious affairs of the SGPC should be done by the servants of the committee.The GSC members from 27 different countries has categorically reiterated the order of Guru Gobind Singh ji which clearly enshrines that Guruta Gaddi (Guruship) was entrusted to Sri Guru Granth Sahib and no other religious book should be placed or worshiped parallel to Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. “Bachittar Natak, Dasam Granth or any other religious book should not be considered tantamount to Guru Granth Sahib ji. So all Sikhs should follow and respect "One Granth, one Panth and one Rehat Maryada published in 1946,” resolved GSC.The Council in its third resolution expressed concern over the plight of Sikhs residing in Afghanistan and exhorted the Sikhs and administration that concerted efforts should be initiated for rehabilitation of Afghan Sikhs suffering from terrorism. The Council resolved to interact with the Afghan Government about the rehabilitation of Sikhs taking shelter in Gurdwaras.

Legislator and eminent lawyer Harvinder Singh Phoolka (Padma Shri awardee) presided over the meeting as chief guest and shared the difficulties faced during the 36 years long legal battle to get conviction of perpetrators of 1984 Sikh genocide in Delhi including former Congress leader Sajjan Kumar and others. He also appealed to the Sikhs living in different countries to get the help of local activists to disseminate the true message of Gurus for free service to the humanity.On this occasion, HS Dhillon, Member of Indonesian Parliament thanked all the delegates and lauded the efforts of the GSC to discuss Sikh issues at the world stage.On the occasion Kanwaljit Singh Bakshi, Member of New Zealand parliament shared the efforts being made by the Sikhs living in New Zealand for free social service and promotion of mother tongue.Describing the actual role of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, President of Gurdwara Council of Malaysia Jagir Singh stressed that only local issues should be resolved from other local Takhts. Secretary Defense Department, Malaysia Dr. Karminder Singh thoroughly explained the detailed analysis based scientific and logic about the role of Adi Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji in the Twenty first century.The GSC President Dr. Kanwaljit Kaur thanked the hosts Balwant Singh Jakarta and his team for making excellent arrangements for the conference and presented report of the Council.Highlighting the annual activities she informed about the expansion of council to other countries as well besides raising the problems being faced by Sikhs in different countries.In addition, Lady Singh briefed about the efforts being made by the Council for speedy construction of corridor at Gurdwara Kartarpur Sahib in Pakistan and requested the Pak Government to refrain from any construction activities in nearby fields of this Gurudwara
