For Motivating Public To Vote, District Administration To Organise Marathon On March 31

In view of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections 2019, the District Administration would be organising a marathon in Punjab Agricultural University, here, on March 31, 2019. The main aim of this marathon would be to motivate the residents, especially youth, to exercise their right to vote during the upcoming elections. A review meeting in this regard was held today, which was chaired by Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Mr Iqbal Singh Sandhu and was attended by all senior district administration officials. This marathon is being organised in collaboration with Daily World.Mr Iqbal Singh Sandhu informed that the main aim of this marathon would be to motivate the residents to exercise their right to vote and also to educate them about the importance of voting. He said that this marathon would be distributed into two parts- 5 kilometer for girls and 10 kilometer for boys. He informed that the 5 kilometer for girls marathon would start at 6:30 am while the 10 kilometer for boys would start at 7:30 am on March 31, 2019.Mr Sagar Setia, IAS (Under Training) informed that more than 2,000 residents are expected to participate in this marathon. 

He said that the participants of this marathon would be given free t-shirts, refreshment and cash prizes worth Rs 1 lakh would be distributed amongst first 10 winners of each category. The first 10 winners would also be given medals, while all participants would be given certificates. He informed that the marathon would start from the gymnasium in Punjab Agricultural University.Dr Poonam Preet Kaur, Assistant Commissioner (General), urged the residents to participate in this marathon in large numbers. She said that interested persons can get themselves registered for participating in this marathon by visiting the office of District Sports Officer (DSO) in Guru Nanak Stadium, here, from 10 am to 5 pm on any working day or calling at phone numbers 92162-77487 or 9888844723. The registration can also be done on the spot.District Sports Officer Mr Ravinder Singh, ADCP Traffic Mr Tarun Rattan, MC Zonal Commissioner Mr Jasdev Singh Sekhon were also present in the meeting.
