Slain Rifleman Karamjit Singh cremated with full army honours at his native village Janer

DC and SSP attends cremation, lays wreaths on the behalf of Punjab Government

Rifleman Karamjit Singh, 24, who was killed in during a ceasefire violation along the border in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir on Monday, was cremated with full army honours at his native village Janer in Dharamkot sub-division, about 20 km from the district headquarters, on Tuesday.Deputy Commissioner (DC) Sandeep Hans accompanied by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) AS Bajwa laid a wreath on the behalf of Punjab Government and Governor of Punjab. Captain Gokul Ashok from Martyr Karamjit’s 18 JAK RIF regiment also laid a wreath on the departed Army man on the behalf of Indian Army.Thousands of people, who poured in from different parts of the district gave a tearful adieu to the martyred rifleman and slogans like “Shaheed Karamjit Singh Amar Rahe” reverberated the air.Karamjit’s coffin draped in Tricolour was brought to his home in the presence of senior army officials, who paid floral tributes to him. As Karamjit’s father Avtar Singh and elder brother Swaran Singh lit the pyre, a contingent of the army led by Captain Gokul Ashok gave a gun salute to the martyr, prior to which bugles sounded the Last Post. Karamjit’s father Avtar Singh had also retired from the Indian Army.Karamjeet was seriously injured in unprovoked firing by Pakistan troops along the LoC in Sunderbani sector of Rajouri in Jammu and Kashmir at around 5.30am on Monday. He later succumbed to his injuries.Meanwhile, Martyr Karamjit had joined the Army in 2015 and was posted in Jammu and Kashmir for over one and a half year.
