Commissionerate Police Seize Unaccounted 7 Lakh Cash From Car During Checking

The commissionerate police have recovered unaccounted cash money to the tune of Rs 7 lakh from a car during checking point outside Punjab Institute of Medical Science (PIMS) on the intervening night of March 15-16 in Garha road.In a press release, the comissionerate police said that a team of Police Station-7 was carrying out checking outside PIMS when the cops stopped a car (PB08-CJ-2020) for the checking.The cops seized the cash from the car and quizzed the car occupant Kulwant Singh of Hardayal Nagar, who failed to give any satisfactory reply about the cash and did not produce any proof. However, Kulwant stated that the cash was of his business collection.The commissionerate police said that following which a DDR has been filed in Police station-7 and case has been handed over to a district-level committee formed on the orders of Election Commission.The committee is headed by additional deputy Commissioner-cum- additional district election officer Mr Kulwant Singh along with Deputy Director Finance and Audit Mr Rakesh Chadha and district treasury officer Ms Harminder Kaur.The police said that the committee will decide whether the cash money was to be used for the elections or not. However, the police commissioner Mr Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said that the Commissionerate Police would ensure foolproof arrangements during run-up for polls to ensure that free, fair and transparent elections were held. Mr. Bhullar directed the officers to beef up security arrangements at all such places which were vulnerable.The Commissioner of Police said that every effort would be made to make the security system more responsive and efficient.
