Rural Police Arrest Three Drug Peddlers Including Woman And Nigerian National, Seize 5-Kg Heroin In Separate Incidents

Continuing its strike against drug peddlers by keeping a tab over the law and order situation through high-level checking points in wake of general election-2019, the rural police have arrested three drug peddlers including a woman and a Nigerian national and recovered 5-kg heroin from their possession during separate nakas.The accused have been identified as Veeryodh Singh of village Laiawal, Pooja of Latiawal village in Kapurthala and Victor Admye David of Abuja State Abuja, Nigeria.Addressing a press conference, Senior Superintendent of police (SSP Jalandhar rural) Mr Navjot Singh Mahal said Assistant Sub-Inspector Mr Manjit Singh from Lohian Police Station received a tip-off that Veeryodh Singh and  Pooja were going to deliver a consignment of heroin in the area from Kapurthala following which SHO Lohian Inspector Dalvir Singh along with woman sub-inspector Ms Amandeep Kaur Mahi laid a trap at Chachowal Bus Stand and around 9 pm, they spotted a man and woman who tried to outsmart the police by entering the bus stand on seeing cops. Mr Mahal said that later the cops apprehended both who revealed their identities as Veeryodh Singh of village Laiawal, Pooja of Latiawal village in Kapurthala and on being frisked, the cops seized 1.5 kg heroin from a backpack being carried out by Veeryodh and 1-kg heroin from the purse of Pooja.

Both were taken into the custody and a case under section 21 of NDPS Act has been registered against them in Lohian Police Station, said SSP and added that Veeryodh has already been facing two cases and Pooja is proclaimed offered and two cases had been registered against her in the past. SSP further informed that sub-inspector Gurdev Singh along with police party carrying out nakabandi at Sutlej Bridge, Phillaur and the cops received a tip-off that a smuggler Victor Admye David of Abuja State Abuja, Nigeria is travelling in a bus from Delhi to Jalandhar to deliver a heavy consignment of heroin.He stated that Phillaur SHO inspector Prem Singh was informed telephonically by the police party, who along with extra force reached Sutlej Bridge and started conducting checking in a systematic and professional manner.Mr Mahal said that around 11:45 PM a foreigner boarded off from the bus and started walking towards Lord Shani Temple near the bridge.  On suspicion, the cops apprehended him and on quizzed, he revealed his identity as Victor Admye David.  The cops searched his backpack and recovered 2.5 kg heroin from it. He told that a case under section 21 of the NDPS Act has been registered against him and a detailed probe is on in both cases.
