Rural Police Arrest Two Drug Peddlers Including Nigerian National, Seize 1 Kg Heroin

The rural police on Thursday have arrested two Delhi based drug peddlers including a Nigerian national and seized one-kilogram heroin at Sutlej bridge in Phillaur town of the district.The accused have been identified as Meeraz Rehmani alias Meeraz of  Uttam Nagar, New Delhi and Ani Chief Obinna of  House No. 3, Mind Land Lene, Delhi.In a press conference, Senior Superintendent of Police (Jalandhar Rural) Mr Navjot Singh Mahal said that a team led by Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Ravinder Singh from Phillaur Police Station along with his team was conducting a checking at Sutlej Bridge and received tip-off, that one Meeraz Rehmani of Delhi, who is a heroin smuggler and travelling from Delhi to Jalandhar on a bus to deliver a consignment of heroin. SSP said that following which, SHO PS Phillaur Inspector Prem Singh, along with police party reached the spot and started conducting a thorough search of the vehicles.Mr Mahal told that during the checking, one person suddenly boarded off from the bus and started walking towards Ludhiana side.  

On suspicion, the police apprehended and questioned him who revealed his identity as Meeraz SSP said and added that later DSP Phillaur Mr Davinder Kumar Attri, also reached the spot and in his presence, Phillaur police frisked him and checked his kit bag and recovered one-kilogram heroin wrapped in a plastic bag. He said that during the course of investigation one Nigerian national Ani Chief Obinna r/o House No. 3, Mind Land Lene, Delhi was also arrested.In preliminary interrogation, Meeraz revealed that he had passed matriculation examination and is a plumber by profession.  About 03 years ago, he fell into the business of smuggling of heroin. And two months ago, he had also supplied a consignment of 350 gm heroin in Maqsudan to an unknown person in lieu of which one Kala Afghani of Delhi gave him Rs. 15,000.SSP informed that today, Meeraz had to deliver the present consignment one kg heroin at Jalandhar and for this, he would be paid high than last time. Kala Afghani had told him that he would call him to whom he had to deliver the consignment on reaching Jalandhar and stated he does not know whereabouts of Kala Afghani.SSP said that the accused would be taken on police remand and a detailed probe is being conducted. However, a case under section 21 of the NDPS Act has been registered against them in Phillaur Police Station.
