Tightening the noose around drug peddlers in the district, the Jalandhar (Rural) police on Monday arrested two Tanzanian women with 200-gm heroin from their possession near Sutlej River Bridge in Phillaur.The accused have been identified as Golden (26) and Maria Sulam (28) of Tanzania,  presently residing in Dwarika Colony in Delhi.Divulging the details, the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jalandhar Rural, Mr. Navjot Singh Mahal said that on a tip off a police team led by Additional SHO Phillaur Inspector Pawan Kumar was conducting police checking near Sutlej Bridge. He said that the cops spotted two foreign based women coming from Ladowal Toll Plaza. Mr. Mahal said that Inspector Kumar along with Lady Force stopped them and quizzed them on which both revealed their names.The Senior Superintendent of Police said that on suspicion the lady cops checked the purses being carried out by the Tanzanian women and recovered 100gm heroin from each purse. He said that both the women were immediately arrested by the Police and a case under section 21 of NDPS Act has been registered against them in Phillaur Police Station.The Senior Superintendent of Police said that further investigation into the case was going on. He said that from July last year 19 foreign nationals including eight women and five men have been arrested by the Jalandhar (Rural) Police for drug peddling. Mr. Mahal said that 10 cases have been registered against these foreign nationals after recovery of more than seven kilograms of heroin from them.
