Major Pre-Election Haul By Jalandhar Rural Police As Three Members Of Inter-State Drug Peddlers Arrested With 885 Cartons Of Illegal Liquor

In a major pre-election haul, the Jalandhar (Rural) Police today busted a gang of inter-state liquor peddlers with arrests of three smugglers along with 885 cartons of illegal liquor being smuggled into Punjab from Chandigarh.Divulging the details, the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mr. Navjot Singh Mahal said that the Police had got a tip off that liquor would be smuggled into Punjab in wake of the ensuing general elections. Mr. Mahal said that the Police sources had said that Babbu who was heading a gang of interstate smugglers was trying to send illegal liquor from other states to Punjab. He said that there was information that the liquor would be smuggled in a truck being driven by one Jalandhar Singh s/o Harbhans Singh a resident of Tarn Taran district.bsequently, the Senior Superintendent of Police said that checking of vehicles was done on National Highway near bridge on Satluj River at Phillaur. Mr. Mahal said that during the checking the Police officers intercepted a truck number PB 30 D 5090 which was coming from Ludhiana side and was driven by Jalandhar Singh. He said that during the checking of vehicle 750 cartons of illegal liquor with label ‘Rajdhani Whiskey- for sale in Chandigarh only’ were recovered from truck. 

Likewise, the Senior Superintendent of Police said that the Police also intercepted a Mahindra Bolero Pick up Number PB 10 FF 0914. He said that during the checking of the vehicle 135 cartons of whisky were recovered from it. Mr. Mahal said that out of this 79 carton were of High Speed whisky, 51 of Kings Gold whisky and five of Rajdhani whisky adding that all were bearing the label for sale in Chandigarh only.The Senior Superintendent of Police said that the Police has arrested Jalandhar Singh, Gagandeep Singh s/o Mangat Singh r/ oNew Shimlapuri Ludhaina and Amandeep Dhiman alias Situ s/ o Sham Lal r/ o Nawi Abadi Phillaur by registering FIRs under 61 Excise Act at Police Station Phillaur. Mr. Mahal said that in wake of every possibility of such liquor being used in upcoming general election the Rural Police has stepped up vigil to check the use of illegal liquor during the elections. He said that the Rural Police was duty-bound to ensure that the elections were held in a free, fair and transparent manner.
