A Three Day Training Programme on “Drug Abuse” for Prison Officials sponsored by National Institute of Social Defence, Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India, New Delhi was organized at Punjab Jail training School, Patiala. Today while speaking to the participants during valedictory function, Sh. GS Sidhu AIG Prisons Punjab (Retd.) said the problem of Drug Abuse can be tackled by spreading awareness and by handling the victims of this menace in a sensible manner. Prof. (Dr.) BS Sidhu Former Principal-cum-HOD Psychiatry Department, Government Rajindra Hospital Patiala, Smt Parminder Kaur Manchanda Project Director, IRCA, Saket Hospital Patiala, Dr. Neeraj Mittal Associate Professor, Psychiatry Department, Dr. Akshika Vermani Senior Resident Government Rajindra Hospital Patiala and Sh. Amritpal Singh Counselor, Saket Hospital Patiala conducted the training sessions for the participants and explained circumstances under which a person get addicted to drugs and what we can do to prevent this. The course participants were also taken to De-addiction Centre at Saket Hospital for Field Visit. Sh. Rajan Kapur  Principal Punjab Jail Training School Patiala thanked the Chief Guest and welcomed all the participants. Sh. RK Sharma PPS Vice Principal Punjab Jail Training School Patiala explained that we need to adopt humanitarian approach and required to be sympathetic while dealing with people involved in drug addiction. Sh. Mukesh Kumar Sharma Assistant Superintendent coordinated the course.
