District Mansa conferred award for most improved District in water supply and sanitation

Chief Minister gives honor to Deputy Commissioner Apneet Riyait receives honor at prestigious India Today conclave

Under the dynamic leadership of Deputy Commissioner Miss Apneet Riyait, Mansa district was conferred award at the prestigious India Today Conclave for being most improved district of Punjab in water supply and sanitation.Chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh conferred the award to Deputy Commissioner honor at India Today Conclave at Chandigarh. Giving information about the efforts put in to attain the target, Miss Riyait said that currently under the World Bank Project 12 new water works are being established by water supply and sanitation Department. This will cost around 1602.02 Lakh Rupees. 7 out of these 12 are already working and remaining will be ready and working by March 31, 2019. Apart from this, under the said project 100% of these 66 villages have been given household water connections. This has cost around 4.78 crore rupees. Eventually under this project 19566 houses (Population 97529) got the benefit.Under Swach Bharat Mission (Rural) the target was to build 17628 toilets in the 245 Gram Panchayats of Mansa. 16635 toilets till now have been built/work in progress. Under this project each beneficiery is provided 15,000/- rupees in the three installments to construct a toilet. Hence Mansa was declared ODF in March 2018. 

The project costed 3097.50 Lakh Rupees out of which funds to the tune of 2522 Lakh Rupees have been received.Besides this to educate and motivate people to be open defecation free, awareness campaigns, swasth ratth and other workshops have been held. Morning Monitoring Committees at village level stop people from defecating in the open and motivate them to use toilets. Around 102547 individuals have benefitted from this schemeShe commended the officials and employees of district who have closely monitored the projects and have worked for the success. Mansa District has 237 Villages, 245 Gram Panchayats and 64 other habitations. As against 237 Villages there exist 237 R.O. Plants. In this District there are total 162 water supply schemes out of which 146 are Canal based and 16 tubewell based and all these schemes are working good. Out of these schemes 90 are being run by the Water Supply Department and 72 by Gram Panchayats or G.P.W.S.C. The total current population of the Mansa is 608948 and total houses are 110584 in number out of which 68683 have a water supply connection.
