Transport Minister reviews status of project to be developed at 14 places in State

The Transport Department would play a leading role in realizing the vision of the Chief Minister, Captain Amarinder Singh for a numero uno Punjab in terms of developmental parameters.” This was disclosed here today by the Transport Minister, Punjab, Mrs. Aruna Chaudhary while presiding over a meeting to review the status of the project to develop modern bus terminals cum commercial complexes at 14 places in Punjab on PPP mode.The minister said that these modern bus terminals cum commercial complexes would be the leading players in propelling the economy of the state. Divulging more, the minister added that the main theme of these complexes would be the comfort of common man and these would contain food courts, rest areas, adequate parking spaces, smooth traffic flow, safe boarding and de-boarding locations, clean drinking water and neat washrooms.Adding further, Mrs. Chaudhary said that with regard to the bus terminal at Gurdaspur the project feasibility report and the draft RFP document has been discussed and the first public hearing would commence from Gurdaspur while the Punjab Infrastructure Development Board (PIDB) has initiated the necessary process to construct bus terminal at Patiala as part of which the Project Feasibility Report (PFR) was submitted to which the PRTC gave some suggestions which were duly incorporated and the modified Pre-Feasibility Report under consideration by the PRTC would be finalized soon. The minister also reviewed the project status at Bathinda, Batala, Amritsar,Jalandhar, Kartarpur, Barnala, Mansa, Raikot, Ludhiana, Rupnagar. During the course of the meeting the minister was also apprised that the bus terminal sites at 2 other places are under litigation.Mrs. Chaudhary directed the all the concerned officers and departments to ensure that the transparency factor remains supreme as the project would be under constant review with zero tolerance towards laxity and also to speed up the pace of the project.Among others present at the meeting included MLA Gurdaspur Mr. Barindermeet Singh Pahra, Principal Secretary, Transport Department, Mr. K. Siva Prasad, State Transport Commissioner Mr. Dilraj Singh, Managing Director PIDB Mr. Vijay N. Zade and the General Managers of the PRTC and Punjab Roadways depots connected with the project.
