Jammu Srinagar highway closed following fresh snowfall, landslides

For the second consecutive day, the Jammu-Srinagar national highway remained closed due to the fresh snowfall and landslides.There has been fresh snowfall in the Bannihal area, and landslides at some places in the Bannihal-Ramban stretch of the road."Around two feet snow accumulated on the road. Landslides have occurred at Anokhi Fall, Panthal and Kela Mode," a traffic department official said in a statement to VMS.The official said that there will be no traffic movement allowed on the highway on Friday."Only stranded vehicles will be allowed to move and that too, only after the road is cleared," the official added.Extreme weather condition this winter has led to the closure of the strategic Jammu-Srinagar highway many times.The closure of Jammu-Srinagar highway has led to the shortage of essential supplies in the valley.

Meanwhile, Jammu Srinagar NHW-44 have witnessed fresh snow 1'- 2.5' feet at Banihal - Qazigund stretch due to which the road has been blocked. Further the rainfall in Banihal- Ramban stretch has also lead to landslide/shooting stones at many places like Anokhi fall, Kela Mode, Panthal etc.In view of the inclement weather as well as present road conditions, the stranded passengers are advised not to travel on NHW especially between Ramban to Qazigund. The stranded vehicles would be allowed to proceed towards their destinations once the road is cleared, police spokesman said Valley Media Service.In view of the rain/snow in plains and other towns of the state, due to which the roads have become slippery, the general public is also advised take necessary precautions so as to avoid accidents and unnecessary road congestions.People are further advised to start their journey on NHW only after confirming status of the road from below mentioned phone Nos.
