Man-woman arrested with 1.37 lakh habit forming tablets

In its ongoing campaign to curb the menace of illegal drug sale, Mansa police today arrested Ludhiana based man and woman with 1.37 lakh habit forming tablets.The accused are identified as Nirmal Singh, a resident of Dakha village of Ludhiana and his accomplice Manpreet Kaur -resident of same village. Nirmal was earlier too booked by Ludhiana police in 2013 when he was caught carrying 20 kg poppy husk.Divulging more details about the case SSP Mandhir Singh said that the duo were arrested by a team from Boha police station led by ASI Amreek Singh. The police team had laid a naka near drain of Gamiwala village in Boha where they intervened a Hyundai Ascent car bearing registration number of Chandigarh. During checking the tablets (Alplazolam and Calvidol) were recovered from the car driven by Nirmal while the woman was sitting with him.Mandhir Singh further stated that the accused tried to make few fast bucks by purchasing the habit forming drugs from Haryana for Rs 1.25 lakhs. They had paid a sum of Rs 80,000 out of the total amount and promised to pay the remaining amount to the seller in Haryana after the sale of tablets in Punjab. They paid Rs 1,000 for one small case (of 500 tablets) of Calvidol which was to be further sold to the addicts for Rs 1700 to Rs 1800. Similarly they bought the small packet of -Alplazolam for Rs 450 from Haryana and which was to further sold to the addicts of Punjab for Rs 1,000 to Rs 1,200. SSP Mandhir Singh pointed out that a case under sections 22,61,85 of the NDPS Act has been registered against both these accused and further investigation is on.
