DC Bandipora inspects ongoing works on One-Stop Centre for Women

Deputy Commissioner Bandipora Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary on Monday visited the under construction One-Stop Centre in Bandipora and reviewed the pace of work.He was accompanied by Superintendent of Police Sheikh Zulfikar Azad, Assistant Commissioner Revenue Reyaz Ahmad Beigh, District Information Officer Jahangir Akhoon and other senior officers of the district.Dr Choudhary directed the officials to complete the work within the set deadline so that the One-Stop Centre will be established at earliest. Officials informed that the work is in the final stage and will be completed within the stipulated time.The Union Ministry of Women and Child Development (MWCD), has formulated a Centrally Sponsored Scheme for setting up ‘One Stop Centre’, a sub-scheme of Umbrella Scheme for National Mission for Empowerment of women including Indira Gandhi Mattritav Sahyaog Yojana (IGMSY).A Mahila Shakti Kendra (MSK) is also being established in the OSC. Dr Choudhary said the MSK aims to empower rural women through community participation and to create an environment in which they realize their full potential. “It will provide an interface for rural women to approach the government for availing their entitlements also empowering them through training and capacity building”.

Dr Choudhary said the OSC is a centre that will provide an array of services, from skill development to psychological assistance to violence affected women under one-roof and will be inaugurated by the end of this month. The One-Stop centre will be exclusively for the women and will be run by the women staff.He said the OSC will serve women affected by violence, in private or at public places, within the family, community or at the workplace and the centre will have representatives from health, Education, administration, Police besides the resources persons from the various department who will assist the aggrieved womenfolk.DC Bandipora said the centre will also provide awareness about various women-specific schemes besides skill development initiatives and other activities."The OSC would also keep a vigil on issues of drug abuse, rehabilitation, relief, and assistance," he said.Dr Choudhary said the government is in process of filling up various posts in the centre on the contractual basis.
