Farmer Gurpraksah of village Jhanjeri is earning profitable income by cultivating organic wheat farming, on the other hand he is also serving as a guiding light for other farmers of the region. Farmer Gurprakash owns merely 1.5 acre of land and is cultivating organic wheat in total 9 acre by taking 7.5 acre of land on lease. This farmer has cultivated the organic wheat rich in antioxidants which have been developed by National Agri Food Bio Technology Institute (NABI) Mohali.Agriculture officer Block Kharar Rampal Singh and Agriculture Development Officer Gurdial Kumar explaining this said that the outer layer of seed of this organic wheat is in black texture due to the presence of anthocyanin a photochemical and this wheat is beneficial for the persons suffering from diabetes, obesity and even cancer.Explaining about the income generated from this wheat, farmer Gurprakash said that he sells that flour prepared from this wheat at Rs. 50 per KG and Dalia at Rs. 100 per KG. Besides this he is also cultivating bio farming of traditional wheat crops which is Rs. 800 per quintal more beneficial than the traditional one.Farmer said that, he has started organic farming in year 2015 and in the very first year the produce was only 7.5 quintal which is increasing every year and now by proper utilising the pesticides and adopting other techniques he has got produce of 12 quintal per acre. He said that chemical pesticides are not used rather seed modification is being done by using trichoderma, biological phosphorus and cow urine. 

Apart from this biological vaccinations prepared by Punjab Agriculture University Ludhiana are being used for prevention of termites and other diseases.Farmer Gurprakash said that he also uses inter crops with various combinations like Mustard seed- Chicken peas, Potato- Mustard Seed, Mustard Seed- Sugarcane etc. He said that form one acre of field, he gets mustard leafs of Rs. 40000/-, edible mustard oil of Rs. 18 to 20 thousand, and 2.5 to 3 quintal fodder. The fodder can also be used as manure for harvesting basmati rice. Farmer is producing 10 quintal basmati rice per acre and basmati cultivated through organic farming is being sold at Rs. 8000 per quintal, whereas the traditional basmati crops are being sold at Rs. 5200 per quintal. The main vegetable cultivation done by farmer gurprakash includes potatoes, onions, cabbage, radish, sprigs, fenugreek seeds, spinach, and carrots. He is also earning by cultivating foreign breeds of Broccoli, Black Carrot, and Chinese Cabbage etc.Worth mentioning that, under Tandrust Punjab Campaign, being run by Govt. of Punjab, special emphasises are being given to use judicious and balanced use of chemical pesticides, on the other hand efforts are being made to encourage organic farming. Due to these efforts, total 7 farmers of the district have adopted organic farming. Block Agriculture Officer Kharar said that farmers adopting organic farming are earning Rs 2.5 to 3 lacs per acre.
