As mercury dips to minus 6.8 degree Celsius in Srinagar, the summer capital records it's coldest night in more than a decade.MeT official said that the lowest temperature recorded was minus 8.8C on 7/12/1990 but the lowest ever is -12.8 on 13/12/1964.Officials further said that fresh western disturbance from the Arabian Sea approaching the region though Afghanistan and Pakistan, will hit J&K on Wednesday which my results in further low temperatures in the region.MeT department has predicted a dry weather in next 48 hours.Kashmir has experience an intense cold wave since the beginning of 40 days of harsh winter known as “Chilai Kalaan”.The cold wave has resulted in freezing of famous Dal Lake and other water bodies.Tourists are enjoying their time as Dal lake has got a sheet of ice on it and the temperature has gone below freezing point in most of the cities. But this low dip in temperature has made the life hard for the local residents. Locals told VMS that frozen taps and water tanks has made the condition worse. There are also reports of frozen water reservoirs across the valley.(VMS)
