In an effort to register their protest and demand an action against the crimes met against them, families of victims belonging to villages Atalan and Shergarh, which come under CM's home district Patiala, are sitting on indefinite hunger strike at Sector 25, Rally ground.Commanding the protest, Paramjit Singh Kainth, President of National Scheduled Castes Alliance told," These families have belonging to CM's home district have opted to sit on hunger strike leaving behind the comfort of their homes which to them don't feel safe anymore. They are terrified to live in their own native villages due to the terror of few zamindars who having political patronage and with the use of thier economic prowess thrashed the family members of the victims under the presence of police officials whom the victims had brought to sought the release of a young boy which the zamindars had kidnapped and who was grievously injured by the said assailants.""Fake FIRs have been registered against these poor families and they are under constant pressure and terror from the police as well as the zamindars who have the backing of the local Congress MLA of the area to back down from fighting their case and to take back the FIRs they have registered against the Zamindars. Due to all these grim circumstances, these families have decided to sit here in Chandigarh on Hunger strike till the accused are tried and justice is served.

We shall also fight side by side with these poor families and would not budge under any circumstance or pressure of this ignorant Government which seems to just favor the interests of the rich and powerful." said Kainth.Kainth further alleged, " MLA of Shutrana, Nirmal Singh belonging to the current ruling Government of Congress pressurized the police to register a fake FIR against the victims and even after various appeals for justice in front of the higher authorities, the victims were left hapless. These victims were targetted for being Scheduled Castes and various instances of social boycott, caste discrimination and oppression lead to the decision of the families to leave their villages and seek refuge in Chandigarh and live as refugees in their own state.""The state government still has not shown any interest to provide these poor families security and justice. No opposition party or any scheduled caste MLA or MP has stood up to protect these families. We urge the Government to act promptly and order action against the accused and give guarantee to these families that they are safe to live in villages without any terror of the rich zamindars. If the government stays ignorant to the plight of these families, the hugner strike shall continue indefinitely and further plan of protests shall follow until the accused are behind bars and families are provided justice." said Kainth.
