Omar wants SC to check computer snooping powers to agencies

Former state Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday said the Supreme Court should intervene to check the powers to snoop on computers that the Central government has given to various agencies.Reacting to the Central government's decision to give powers to snoop on official and personal computers to central agencies, Omar Abdullah said in his Twitter handle: "Given that the government has now authorised multiple agencies to snoop on the personal & official computers of the Hon'ble judges of the Supreme Court, I hope the SC takes a long hard look at the legality of the order."The order passed late on Thursday by the Cyber and Information Security division of the Union Home Ministry authorises 10 central agencies, including the Intelligence Bureau, Central Bureau of Investigation and the Enforcement Directorate, to intercept, monitor and decrypt any information generated, transmitted, received or stored in any computer.
