After the road accident that happened yesterday in Plera (Mandi), EX MLC Dr Shehnaz Ganai today thanked the Hon'ble Governor and Advisor Sh V. Kumar for acting swiftly in sending the state Helicopter for airlifting the critically injured patients to GMC Jammu for specialized treatment. While speaking to the Hon'ble Governor today this morning over phone, Dr Ganai asked him to sanction ex-gratia relief to the next of the kins and also infavour of those who got injured in the accident. Showing quickness in the matter Dr Ganai said that i am highly thankful to Hon'ble Governor in sanctioning ex-gratia relief of Rs 5.00 lacs in favour of the next of the kins of those who died yesterday and Rs 50000/- for those who got injured, besides free treatment to those who got injured in the incident yesterday, as the people are poor and can’t afford huge expenses on treatment.While speaking to the Hon’ble Governor, Dr Ganai urged him for ordering an inquiry into the incident so that the facts could be brought before the public, to which the Hon’ble Governor assured the Ex MLC that he will take up the matter with Divisional Commissioner Jammu for Conducting an inquiry into the incident.
Dr Ganai was all praise to the local people who were first to reach the accident spot and thanked them for actively participating and timely rescuing and shifting the injured to the nearest hospital, which resulted into saving many precious lives.Dr Ganai said that there is dearth of specialist doctors in our Hospitals and urged the Hon'ble Governor to look into the matter personally and see that the sufficient medical specialist doctors are deputed to Poonch. Dr Ganai said that we have CT scan machine at Poonch but due to non availability of Radiologist the machine is lying defunct and being Border area and prone to cross LOC shelling, Dr Ganai said that we even do not have critical care ambulances.Dr Ganai further said that over the years we have seen that there is rise in deaths due to road accidents, and J&K figures among the few states where the death toll due to accidents is high in the Country. As per the figures “The number of road accidents with respect to total stretches of roads in the state has also been steadily rising.Dr Ganai asked District Transport and Traffic Authorities to gear up the checking of commercial vehicles and see if the vehicles are fit to ply on hilly routs.
