DDC Pulwama reviews District Level Action Plan under BBBP

The District Development Commissioner Pulwama, Glulam Mohammad Dar, today chaired a meeting to review District Level Action Plan (DLTF) under BBBP for the year 2018-19.Additional Deputy Commissioner Pulwama /District Programme officer ICDS, ADC Tral, ADC Awantipora, Assistant Commissioner Development, District Information Officer, Chief Medical Officer, Block Medical Officers, Tehsildars, Block Development Officers, CDPOS and other Civil and Police officials were present in the meeting.At the outset of the meeting, District Programme officer ICDS Pulwama spoke about the BBBP initiative and its need. He said that sex determination before birth and post birth discrimination against the girl child has increasingly led to an alarming situation, but in previous years from the inception of BBBP scheme, there has been significant improvement trend in the child sex ratio (CSR). He said coordinated and convergent efforts are needed to ensure survival, protection and education of the girl child.The meeting was informed that a wide spectrum of activities will be taken in order to reverse the declining child sex ratio in the district. Activities such as celebration of girl child, mass media awareness campaign through awareness van, banners hoardings wall painting, enforcement of PC&PNDT Act, convergence with education, health, ICDS and other training will be also held across the district.

Speaking on the occasion, DDC said that in order to make this initiative successful, the line departments have to work in coordination. He directed concerned to constitute committees for conducting regular surveys to motivate the people regarding institutional births. He also urged to mobilize field functionaries in tribal areas to make people aware about facilities being provided in the institutions, so that child mortality can be decreased. DDC also urged upon the participants to adopt local best practices so that positive results can be achieved to frost the skewed sex ratio. He also impressed upon the participants to make unrelenting efforts regarding girl education, girl enrollment ratio, sanitation, Maternal Mortality Rate and Infant Mortality Rate, so that the indicators in the district get improved. It was also said that success stories related to the girl child in various fields like education, art, skill development, business, entrepreneurship shall be felicitated with cash awards.
