Abdul Majid Bhat reviews functioning of Cooperative Banks

Secretary Cooperatives and Tribal Affairs, Abdul Majid Bhat today reviewed the functioning of Cooperative Banks of Jammu Division, here at a meeting.Registrar Cooperative Societies informed the Secretary that there are nine Cooperative Banks in the division with 271 branches and around 1606 employees.Threadbare discussion was held with CEOs and MDs of Central Cooperative Bank (JCCB) Ltd, J&K State Cooperative Agriculture and Rural Development Bank Srinagar (JKSCARD), Citizen’s Cooperative Bank (CCB), Ltd, Devika Urban Cooperative Bank (DUCB)Ltd  to uplift and make these profit earning financial institutions.The Secretary said that banks should be farmer friendly which will help to boost the State economy as large portion of people are dependent on farming in the state."We should coordinate with other leading banks to enhance the banking facilities to the common masses", he added.He further said that it was the prime duty of bank management to improve the credibility of their banks which would help in producing employment, earning units in a bigger way. He said maintaining the accountability and transparency in the banks forms key to make them profit earning units.Stressing upon the digitization, he asked officials to install the necessary infra and other facilities to the account holders as other leading banks do.Majid impressed upon employees to redouble their efforts to strengthen the banks and make general masses aware about the Cooperative schemes. He also asked them to work with added zeal and zest.
