Jai Ram Thakur lays foundation stone of Mini Secretariat building at Una

Announces to construct two additional buildings for Una Govt. College

While addressing the gathering on the occasion of Golden Jubilee Celebrations of Government Degree College Una today, Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur said that two new buildings as per the requirement would be constructed in the College campus and the state government would sympathetically consider the matter to develop this college as Regional Centre.Congratulating the old students, teachers and current students of the college, Jai Ram Thakur said that college days were one of the most unforgettable moments of one’s life. He said that this not only helps in shaping our future but also in laying a sound foundation for a strong nation.He said that Himachal Pradesh was fast emerging as the education hub in the country. Recently the State has been adjudged as the ‘Best State’ in the country in the field of education. He urged the students to give due respect to their teachers as it was due to their knowledge that they achieved what they are today. He said that with hard work and dedication all of us must strive hard to help the nation to regain its old glory of ‘Vishv Guru’.The Chief Minister said that during a short period of about eleven months, the state government has ensured equitable development of all areas and welfare of every section of the society. He said that the only objective of the Government was development of the State without any vengeance and vendetta. He said that the Union government was quite considerate towards the developmental demands of the state and development projects worth crores of rupees have been sanctioned during this period.

Jai Ram Thakur said that the growing tendency of drug abuse, particularly amongst the youth was a matter of concern. He urged the teachers, parents and students to join hands to curb the menace of drug abuse. He said that on his initiative neighbouring states have come together to chalk out a joint strategy to tackle this social evil. The state government would come heavily on drug peddlers and strict action would take against those involved in this activity. He said that although the sex ratio in the State was better than most of the neighbouring state, but still lot more needed to be done.He announced Rs. 51,000 from his discretionary fund for the students presenting cultural programme on the occasion.He also released the souvenir brought out by the school management on the occasion. Earlier, the Chief Minister laid foundation stone of administrative block of Police lines Jhalera to be constructed at a cost of Rs. 3.83 crore. He also inaugurated bridge over Pekhubela Khud constructed at a cost of Rs. 1.31 crore and laid foundation stone of HPPWD Mechanical Workshop to be constructed at a cost of Rs. 87.94 lakh,He laid foundation stones of Mini Secretariat Una to be completed by spending an amount of Rs. 29.39 crore, new modern Police Station building of State Vigilance and Anti Corruption Bureau at Una to be constructed at a cost of Rs. 2.06 crore and additional rooms of HPSEBL Field Hostel to be completed by spending about Rs. 72 lakh.He also performed Bhumi Pujan of Behdala Chattata Khud channelization (Flood Control) at Jalgran completed at a cost of Rs. 25 crore.

The Chief Minister laid foundation stone of National Career Service Centre for differently abled persons.Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Virender Kanwar said that this college has completed fifty glorious years of its existence and produced some of the outstanding alumni who have excelled in different fields. He said that the present state government has initiated several schemes for providing quality education to the students. The ‘Akhand Shiksha Jayoti Mere School Se Nikle Moti’ launched by the state government would go a long way in motivating the students to perform better in their life.President, State BJP and old student of this college Satpal Singh Satti said that education plays a vital role not only career building, but also plays a major role in nation building. He said that it was essential that these institutions help in inculcating the spirit of patriotism amongst the students. He said that it was need of the hour that due regard and respect be provided to the teachers. He also urged the Chief Minister for expansion and development of the college and up-grade it as Regional Centre of HP University.President of the Old Students Association of the college Rajiv Mehta welcomed the Chief Minister and nostalgically remembered his college days.Principal of the College Prof. Trilok Chand highlighted various achievements and accomplishments of the students of the college.Vice Chairman HIMUDA Praveen Sharma, Vice Chairman SIDC Prof Ram Kumar, MLA Balbir Chaudhary, Vice Chairman State Handicraft and Handloom Corporation Sanjiv Katwal, Director General of Police S.R Mardi, Vice Chancellor HP University Sikander Kumar, Director Higher Education Dr. Amarjit Sharma and Deputy Commissioner Rakesh Prajapati were present on the occasion among others.
