Ethanol and Power generation plants would also be set up at Sugar Mills- Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa

Reiterating Punjab government`s commitment for converting loss making cooperative Sugar Mills into profit making ones in the state, Cooperation Minister Punjab, Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa today said that besides increasing production capacity of these sugar mills the production of Ethanol and power generation would also be started at these mills in near future so as to make them economically strong. To make these sugar mills profitable each residue of Sugarcane Crop after producing sugar from sugarcane would be used for production of Ethanol and Power generation and for this purpose the Cabinet Sub Committee has already given green signal for setting up of co-generation plants at these mills. Besides this crushing of sugarcane at these sugar mills has also been started earlier this season in comparison to the past years, said Cooperation minister while addressing a function for commencing crushing work at Ajnala Sugar Mill today.

Mr. Randhawa revealed that the producing capacity of Bhogpur Sugar Mill has been increased and the mill has started power generation. In the coming days co-generation would also be started at Suugar Mills at Ajnala, Batala and Gursadpur after increasing producing capacity of these mills, said Mr. Randhawa adding that state government would also release Rs. 218 Crore, to pay the dues of cane growers pending towards Sugar mills soon.Referencing the efforts being made by Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh for further strengthening SUGARFED and MILKFED, Punjab Cooperation Minister said that besides increasing capacity of MILKFED Plants of Jalandhar and Mohali a new plant would also be set up at Dera Bassi.During this function MLA Ajnala Mr. Harpartap Singh Ajnala thanked the Cooperation Minister for state government`s efforts focusing on increasing the Mill`s capacity as it would benefit the farmers in many ways. On the Occasion MD SUGARFED Mr. Davinder Singh, Mr. Dilraj Singh Sarkaria, Mr. Bhupinder Singh Walia and other dignitaries were also present.
