“The Punjab Government is undertaking important steps to provide top notch healthcare facilities to the people of Punjab and also initiating novel measures for promotion of ayurveda in the state. As part of these, an ayurvedic college as well as a pharmacy would be coming up at Mohali. Not only this, but the Vice Chancellor of the Ayurveda University would be donned by an Ayurveda Acharya.” This was disclosed here today by the Health Minister, Punjab, Mr. Brahm Mohindra at the Rattan professional college Sohana on the occasion of a function held to mark the National Ayurveda Day cum Dhanwantri Diwas. The function was organized courtesy Directorate of Ayurveda, Punjab, Board of Ayurveda and Unani Systems of Medicine, Punjab, Punjab State Faculty of Ayurvedic and Unani Systems of Medicines. Addressing the gathering, the minister said that during the previous years the ayurvedic treatment system in the state suffered a setback but the Captain Amarinder Singh led government in Punjab has paid attention towards this and the institutions connected with the ayurveda are being upgraded. As part of these measures, the Patiala based ayurvedic college has been turned into a constituent college of the university. The long stopped promotions of the staff related to the ayurvedic institutions are being effected. He also said that the Patiala based ayurvedic pharmacy would also be revived.

Divulging more, Mr. Mohindra said that the Punjab Government initiated ‘Mission Tandarust Punjab’ is going great guns and has evoked thunderous applause from the people of the state. He also said that no stone would be left unturned to provide top notch healthcare services to the people of Punjab. The minister also honoured eminent personalities making immense contributions in the field of ayurveda.Earlier, in his address the Animal Husbandry, Dairy Development and Labour Minister, Punjab, Mr. Balbir Singh Sidhu exhorted the people to adopt the age old traditional ayurveda a part of their lives. He said that ayurveda can play yeoman’s role in a healthy living. He also said that it is the need of the hour to connect with ayurveda and also the youth is fast taking to ayurveda mode.The personalities honoured for making effective contributions in the field of ayurveda included Dr. Vijay Kumar Jain Ferozepur, Dr. Satinder Kumar Kakkar Ludhiana, Dr. Hitendra Suri Fatehgarh Sahib, Dr. Amritpal Singh Patiala, Dr. Inderjit Singh Chandigarh, Dr. Harvinder Grover Patiala, Dr. Shashi. K. Puri Hoshiarpur, Dr. Kulwant Rai Jain Muktsar, Upvaid Mr. Kuldeep Singh Dhindsa Patiala and Upvaid Mr. Raj Bahadur Singh Fatehgarh Sahib. On the occasion, the Chairman of the Punjab Health Systems Corporation Mr. Amardeep Singh Cheema also aired their views.Among those present on the included Director Ayurveda, Punjab, Dr. Rakesh Sharma, Director Research & Medical Education, Punjab, Dr. Avnish Kumar and Registrar, Board of Ayurvedic and Unani System of Medicine Dr. Sanjeev Goyal and officers of the other departments.
