A youth was injured critically on  Wednesday evening in government forces action during clashes following the killings of two Hizb-ul-Mujahideen militants in Nowgam area of Srinagar. Also, thousands of people attended the funeral of the militants— Sabzar Ahmad Sofi, a PhD scholar and Asif Ahmad Shergojiri.Sources said a youth Nissar Ahmad Dar son Rashid Dar of Deva colony was injured seriously after received a teargas shell at Janglat Mandi Anantnag. He has been referred to Srinagar from district hospital Anatnag.Also three youth were injured after militants fired few in air at the funeral of Sabzar Ahmad Sofi. They have been identified as Adil Ahmad Gunda son of Abdul Salam of Sangam, Aijaz Dar son of Ghulam Hassan of charsoo, Awantipora and Jameel Ahmad Wani son of Mohd Kamal of Madina Pulwama. They all received injuries in their leg.Security forces in the outskirts of Srinagar at Wanbal J/D of P/S Nowgam, launched a cordon and search operation today morning based on credible input about the presence of the militants.Sabzar Ahmad Sofi and Asif Ahmad Shergojiri were killed in a gunfight with government forces at Wanabal Nowgam area in Srinagar outskirts. The house in which the militants were hiding was also completely damaged.  

A police spokesman said during a search operation, militants fired upon the search party, which was retaliated, leading to an encounter. “In the ensuing encounter militants were neutralized.”The spokesman said that Sabzar Ahmad Sofi son of Bashir Ahmad Sofi resident of Naina Sangam Anantnag had joined militant ranks in 2016 and was involved in several attacks on security establishments in district Anantnag.“He was involved in many (militancy-related) cases including FIR No. 22/2018 under section 13 ULAP Act at Police Station Bijbehara.“Pertinently, Sabzar Ahmad was involved in killing of one civilian lady namely Biba wife of Mohammad Yousuf Matto resident of Naina Batapora in the evening of 28-10-2016.”Asif Ahmad Shergojiri alias Khubaib son of Ali Mohammad Shergojiri resident of Khiram Anantnag. The spokesman said, had joined the militant ranks in January this year and was actively involved in attacks on security establishments. “He was involved in many cases and the prominent cases include FIR No. 04/2018 under section 13 ULAP Act registered at Police Station Srigufwara and FIR No. 15/2018 under section 15/2018 under section 451, 392,506 RPC, 7/25 Arms Act registered at Police Station Srigufwara.”The spokesman said that after wrapping up the operation, recovering the bodies of the militants and Arms and ammunition, the operational parties took security precautions with regard to sanitization of the area and advising people not to unnecessarily visit and tamper with the site of encounter.  “The Police advised the people of the locality that anything found suspicious in nature, which could possibly be some explosive material, should be reported to Police so that any inadvertent and avoidable loss to any member of the civil society could be avoided.” (GNS)
