Rashtrya Mahila Kisan Diwas was celebrated across the state with great enthusiasm in which a huge number of women farmers participated. JAMMU:  Agriculture Department organized Mahila Kisan Diwas at village Nagrota which was presided over by Incharge CAO Jammu N. K. Mishra. While speaking on the occasion, he said that women are actively involved in seed selection, sowing, planting, weeding, harvesting, post harvesting and other operations involved in agriculture and allied sectors but their contribution is always marginalised. He said that the women farmers have their significant role and involvement in every farm operations like sowing, planting, fertilizer application, plant protection, harvesting, weeding and storage.SAMBA: Department of Agriculture, Samba organized a function to celebrate Mahila Kisan Diwas  at village Dagore of Samba District here today as a day of women Farmer’s empowerment for their key role in the field of agriculture. The programme was presided over by Chief Agriculture Officer, Samba, Narinder Misra which was attended by large number of women farmers of the area.Speaking on the occasion CAO, Samba said that in the year 2016, the Ministry of Agriculture decided to observe 15th of October as Rashtriya Mahila Kisan Diwas to recognize their contribution in various aspects of agriculture. He said that purpose of this programme is to create awareness to increase the active participation of women in agriculture as entrepreneur by forming Self Help Groups (SHGs), Farmer Producer Organization (FPOs) and play multi-dimensional roles in agriculture.UDHAMPUR: Mahila Kisan Diwas was also celebrated in Tikri and Majalta of Udhampur District in which large number of  women farmers of the area participated. At Tikri SMS (SDL) Udhampur S. K. Bhan, SMS (SDL) Ambika and Agriculture Extension Officer, Tikri Zone Ajay Sharma gave lectures on various topics including doubling farmers’ income, vegetable cultivation, apiculture, mushroom growing, value additions and preservation for various agro-based products. He added that the efforts are needed to bring a positive change in the knowledge, attitude and skills of the women farmers by providing training and technical advice and also assisting them in taking decisions in adoption of new agricultural technologies.

REASI: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology-Jammu (SKUAST-J) celebrated Women Farmers Day (Mahila Kisan Divas) to recognize the contribution of women farmers in agriculture here today at Malad village. The programme was organised under the guidance and supervision of Associate Director Extension and Incharge, KVKs of SKUAST-J, Dr.R.K.Arora.While speaking on the occasion, he appealed the women farmers to sustain farming and other allied activities and develop themselves up to the level of agri-entrepreneurs. He briefed about the significance of event and highlighted the immense contribution of women in improving the agriculture and national economy. Encouraging women farmers, he said that around 70-80 per cent of agricultural work is performed by the women farmers in hilly areas and they play multi-dimensional role to enhance the economy of the nation.Kishtwar: Women Farmer’s Day was celebrated at New DC Office Complex Kishtwar.  Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar Angrez Singh Rana presided over the function. The programme was organized by the staff of District Animal Husbandry Office Kishtwar headed by DAHO Dr Sanjay Sen.Speaking on the occasion DC said the day is celebrated to recognise the immense contribution and power of women in farming activities which is back bone of rural economy.  He further directed the functionaries of concerned department to aware women with regard to innovative techniques in agriculture and allied sectors to create positive boost for the benefits of the Farm women.RAMBAN: Department of Agriculture Ramban celebrated Rashtrya Mahlya Kisan Diwas at Billawat village of district Ramban here today. The programme was inaugurated by Sub Divisional Agriculture Officer (SDAO) Ramban M. G Singh where more than 60 women participated in the programme. Recourse persons from Agriculture and Veterinary Department spoke on the various topics covering different Centrally Sponsored schemes and State Sector Schemes   like PMFBY, NAMAET, NFSM, RKVY, MIDH etc. Keen interest was shown by the participants in integrated and organic farming; especially in recently introduced waste decomposer for quick decomposition of farm waste within 30- 40 days.
