ZBNF only alternative to restore soil fertility : Acharya Devvrat

Addressing the farmer's workshop on Zero Budget Natural Farming (ZBNF) at Gurukul, Kurukshetra in Haryana, today, Governor Acharya Devvrat said that as per the data of agricultural scientists, the land of major agricultural producing states was deteriorating, which could only be restored through ZBNF and it was a matter of satisfaction that many states like Himachal, Arunachal, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka etc. had started work on it.Dr. Trilochan Mohapatra, Director General, Indian Council of Agriculture Research (ICAR) said that setting up of Natural Farming Department at the University level would be considered so that research could be done in this direction.Padamshree Subhash Palekar said that all of them were tired of chemical cultivation and even organic farming was not less harmful than chemical farming. He said that the only option to replace chemical farming was ZBNF. He stressed the need for comparative studies in the chemical, organic and natural farming at the university level.Earlier, nearly 80 farmers of Himachal Pradesh besides the Director General of Indian Council of Agricultural Research Dr. Trilochan Mahapatra, along with high officials of Himachal Pradesh visited Gurukul farms developed in 180 acres.The Governor briefed the Vice Chancellors, officers and farmers of the Agricultural Universities of various states about the ZBNF model of Gurukul.Omkar Sharma, Principal Secretary Agriculture, Ashwani Kumar Chaudhary, Deputy Commissioner, Lahul-Spiti, senior officers of Agriculture Department and farmers visited the farm and were impressed by the agricultural model.
