Badnore Calls Upon The Eminent Senior Citizens To Strike Socio Emotional Cord With The Youth

The Punjab Governor and Administrator, UT, Chandigarh, V.P. Singh Badnore called upon the eminent senior citizens of Chandigarh to strike a perfect socio-emotional cord with the city youth. He urged them to devote some of their time to interact with the school children in order to talk about morality, ethics and other social values with themas their experience and maturity can guide the youth in a better way.Addressing the senior citizens on the occasion of the International Day for Older Persons observed at Tagore Theatre, Chandigarh,the Governor said India is a country which has the oldest civilization and from time immemorial our forefathers taught us about the values of being respectful towards parents and elders. These are the social values enshrined in our civilization and also engraved in our minds.Unfortunately over the years we have noticed a deviation in this regard which we have to set right it in the interest of our socio-emotional health. The same old values need to be inculcated in our children which are lost somewhere. We Indians have the collective responsibility to establish and sustain an environment of safety and security for all the vulnerable sections of our society, including our senior citizens.

Adding further, he said the elderly people must also be motivated to participate whole heartedly in the economic, social, cultural and political activities of the society in order to give them a sense of belonging and responsibility.The Governor also appreciated the efforts made by Chandigarh Senior Citizens Association in providing the much needed services not only to members of the Association but also to other challenged sections of society. The Association’s Souvenir 2018 and a directory of the Members for 2018-2020 were released on the occasion. Senior Citizens were also honoured for their outstanding contribution in diverse fields.In her address, Mrs. Kirron Kher, Member Parliament   stressed upon the need to adopt under privileged segments of society and provide them education, better living options and I.T. training. She especially appreciated the spirit of the highly motivated and alert seniors of Chandigarh who can makewonderful contribution to uplift the society.Earlier the Association President Sh. I.P. Puri gave a brief resume of the Association Activities. Prominent amongst others who addressed the gathering included Mrs. Kulwant Dhaliwal, Chairperson, Capt. G.S.Ghuman,Vice President, Mr Brij Sapra, Secretary General and Mr.Daljeet Singh Grewal Immediate Past President of the Association.
