Two militants killed in Sopore gunfight

At least two militants were killed in a gunfight at Tujjar area of Sopore town in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district.Reports said that a joint team of army's 22 RR, SOG and CRPF laid a siege around Nowpora area of Tujjer late last night following “specific” inputs about the presence of militants. Soon after the cordon was laid, the militants hiding in the area opened fire upon the forces triggering off an encounter.The militants according to reports first managed to break the cordon; however, Forces extended the cordon and neutralized two militants.Srinagar based Defense Spokesperson Colonel Rajesh Kalia said while confirming the killing of two militants said that operation was in progress.Authorities suspended the Internet service and closed all educational institutions in wake of the encounter.Police issued a statement stating that a joint team of Police and army during the preceding night jointly launched a search operation based on credible inputs about the presence of militants at Nowpora area of Tujjer in Sopore.A police spokesperson said that during the searches, hiding militants fired on the search party, which was retaliated leading to an encounter.“In the ensuing encounter, two militants were eliminated. The identity of the killed militants is being ascertained,” the spokesman said.The spokesman said that some arms, ammunition and incriminating material has been recovered from the site of encounter.Police has registered a case in this regard and the investigation has been initiated in the instant matter.
