Attempt to smuggle drugs in J&K foiled at Lakhanpur

Excise Department along with Police intercepted a vehicle at Toll Post Lakhanpur and foiled an attempt to smuggle 900 bottles of Codeine Phosphate Syrup in the Jammu and Kashmir state.An official of the excise department said that its sleuths and the police concerned foiled the attempt to smuggle the drugs which was being transported in a vehicle bearing Registration No.HR37D-5980 in the garb of ‘Trade Goods and Cloth’."The vehicle carrying contraband items (Drugs) has been seized by the Police Station Lakhanpur for further investigation/action under NDPS Act," the official said. The whole operation was conducted by a joint team consisting of Excise Inspectors, Rajnishwar Sayal and Excise Guard, Abdul Majid Bhat under the supervision of Excise and Taxation Officer, Sandeep Gupta along with SHO Police Station, Lakhanpur Sushil Sharma under the direct supervision of Ashish Kumar Gupta, Deputy Excise Commissioner, Toll Post Lakhanpur and Shridhar Patil, SSP Kathua, he said.The Excise Commissioner, J&K Government, Talat Parvez Rohella appreciated the efforts of Excise and Police Staff for the important catch and enjoined them to work with more zeal and in coordination with other departmental agencies and also complimented  Ashish Kumar Gupta, Deputy Excise Commissioner, Toll Post Lakhanpur and his team for the achievements, he said.In this regard, a case under relevant sections of NDPS Act, stands registered at P/S Lakhanpur and the investigation is going on.
